Since 1985, Turtle Island Quartet has pioneered bold new trends in chamber music. With two GRAMMY Awards for Best Classical Crossover Album, they seamlessly blend classical quartet aesthetics with contemporary styles like folk, bluegrass, swing, funk, R&B, and hip-hop. With over a dozen recordings and collaborations with artists like Terence Blanchard and Paquito D’Rivera, Turtle Island revives century’s old improvisational and compositional traditions, staking its claim as the 'New World' string quartet of the 21st century. Their program Island Prayers features imaginative new commissions by Rhiannon Giddens, Terence Blanchard, and Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate.
